Hey all - looking to find out who makes the best cap nowadays. I know Leer and Snugfit and was wondering if anyone has had luck with anything else. I'm hoping to find a best bang for the buck cap with good options: standard height, sliding side windows, carpet, LED lighting.

Who has had good luck, and let's see some pics!

F-150 Exhaust Manifold Bottom Front Bolt

I am trying to replace the passenger side exhaust manifold on a 2001 4.6 that I just bought as a tow vehicle for the weekends. I've read tons of posts on here about removing the manifold but I can't get to the front, bottom nut/stud. It is too close to the motor mount. Any ideas or suggestions? I removed the wheel well cover as was suggested so I have a visual on the mankfold, I just can't seem to get to this nut

Is there any negative effects of using towhaul all the time?

I've searched around and found lots of comparisons thread of tow haul vs sport and normal mode but I actually prefer the way my truck shifts in tow haul. I find my self using tow haul 80% of the time with the other 20% being sport, my question is are there any actual negative effects? Sorry for the silly question, I'm prob just paranoid but ya know... TIA guys.

Name's Craig and I live in Canton, Mi.

I've been mainly a car guy up until 2017. The redesign of the Raptor caught my in 2017. I was torn between either getting a Chevy SS or a Raptor. I got neither due to having to rollover X amount of dollars from a previous car (2012 GMC Acadia Denali). So There I was stuck. I walked around the lot and picked a truck, lol. Never have I owned a truck before. I really wanted the Raptor to be that cherry popper. I drove off in a new 2017 Silverado Midnight Edition. It wasn't bad at all especially when you have a V8. Fast Forward to May 2020. Paid the lease off early and the wife gives me the green light. I had a ton of raptors saved in my cargurus.com account which i checked periodically. Finally found one and here I am. I know nothing about Fords. I have had the truck since Thursday and still haven't had the time to even set the garage opener, lol. I am more than happy with it and it came with the Borla Exhaust :stuart:.....

Also I have a thing for the color black. Pics below are the Past and Present

Maintenance Advice for F150 2004

Hello, new to this Site and looking for some helpful advice to help me maintain my F150.

This was a gift from my grandparents, specifically my Grandfather, who has been pretty good with general maintanence as far as oil changes and sparkplugs go. Since having it, I have done the same and have done some other upkeep work on it.

Below are the Specs of my vehicle and some repairs Ive done already within the passed year:
Ford F150 Fx4
V8 Engine 5.4L
200,000 Miles reached earlier this year
recent repairs:
Replaced both Solenoids, Belt, All Spark Plugs, Replaced Gear Shift, New Battery, Transmission flush, and have a small oil leak repair and wheel alignment scheduled this coming week.

I know there is probably more I need to do, so I wanted to ask if anybody has come across any repairs they needed to do on a similar model/year of F150. I really want to keep this truck going. Some issues I am starting to notice is that sometimes my ignition hesitates for a moment. Happened recently before my next oil change was due, but am unsure if that can effect the starter. It started up much smoother after the change though. Another is that my truck creaks alot when jumping on and off or even turning at times, figuring its the bushing or suspension, but want to rule out anything major.

Hope I can get some good advice from those with experience. I really hope to make this truck last as long as possible. I know some things will need to get replaced as they all eventually wear out, so the more suggestions the better I can plan. My goal is to replace anything major engine wise first before I take up any re-upholstering and cosmetic interior work.

Thanks!

2012 XLT 5.0L Bucking/Skipping/Stuttering

Hello everyone,
I have a 2012 F-150 5.0 with 44,000 miles. Every once in awhile under very light acceleration when it’s in second and trying to go to third, it stutters and bucks and the Tachometer bounces up and down a, then if I let my foot off the gas it immediately stops and acts normal. It will also do it while in park it will idle normally but when I give it some gas it will stutter and the Tach will bounce up and down and when I take my foot off the gas pedal it returns to normal and after idling for a bit it's good to go. This all seems to happen when the truck has been driven and has reached operating temp and then when left for an hour or two, these issues can occur which I guess you could say it happens after a warm start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Houston, I think we have a problem

Have no idea of why I was looking at the roof other than even though I'm probably getting rid of this tomorrow the white residue on the satellite antenna was driving me nuts. I didn't take any far out shots but this is in the drain channel on the roof as it meets the corner of the windshield where the seam sealer is. Both sides are just the same. Pretty darn sure that is a crack on the right side and also pretty sure it isn't supposed to be there. Decided to go looking at some used F150s today after seeing this. Funny thing, every used 2016 had the cracks and only a few of the 15s had them. I think there was also one 2017 with them. Possibly where the darn water is coming in????

AC compressor relay bypass

Hey everyone. Over the past few weeks my a/c started fading out...warmer and warmer each week. Now it's completely gone. I've recharged other cars I've owned in the past but no luck with this one. I was at 10 PSI when I first checked. I tried to get it to take a can of r134a and no luck. I started messing with it again today and the low pressure was at 90 and the compressor won't come on. I discharged a bit from the low port to 30 and still won't come on. I know there is a way to bypass the fuse/relay with a paper clip. Anyone know the trick or had a similar AC issue? Appreciate anyone's input! Thanks:)

2014 f150 aftermarket radio doesn't fit HELP!

I've been wanting to replace the factory stereo on my 2014 F150 for awhile and finally decide to go for it last week. I ordered the Pioneer MCH-1400nex (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130140...H-1400NEX.html), iDataLink Maestro RR (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_794ADS...ce-Module.html) and the iDataLink MFT1 install kit (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_794KMF...FT1-Black.html) based on the suggestions from a crutchfield sales person. I have the "MyFord Touch" system with the 8" screen and from all of my research it seemed like the kits listed above were all I needed to replace the factory system and retain all of the factory functionality (steering wheel controls, heated/cooled seats, climate control, etc...).

The removal of the factory radio went smoothly, I was able to hook up the new receiver and maestro module with little effort as well. I tested out the receiver, all factory systems were functioning as expected and the installed seemed to be a success. The problem came when I tried to place the new radio into the dash, right away it became clear that the new radio wasn't going to fit into the dash using the factory brackets. There is a metal frame that goes behind the media console and the back of the radio was hitting on this frame before it could be seated far enough back to use the factory brackets. After spending the next 4 hours trying to make the new radio fit (include attempting to create my own brackets to mount the radio) I gave up and reinstalled the factory radio. I've scoured the interwebs trying to find people who has experienced a similar issue and from everything i've seen no one has run into issues replacing the factory radio using the kits listed above. From everything I tried I just don't see how the new receive could possible fit in the given space (without cutting up the dash) and still have the screen line up with the opening on the dash console (I could mount the radio lower but then the screen wouldn't line up with the opening).

Before I return the radio to crutchfield I wanted to reach out to anyone who has installed (or attempted to install) and aftermarket radio in a 2014 F150 to see if it may just be something I am doing wrong. Thanks!

5 point YOTE's 2019 Build

Hey all - sharing what I've done with the truck in the last week. I dropped it off on Monday to have an Icon Stage 1 level kit installed with a set of 2018 raptor take offs and brand new 315/70/r17 BFG KO2s, the load range C version. I have a 2019 SCREW 4x4 with the 5.0, the 6.5ft bed, and 3.73 gears.

I'm thrilled with this kit and how everything turned out. It came out looking and riding exactly like I wanted. Before I get to pictures, I'll try and provide a thorough review of everything I was looking for when I did my research so hopefully it helps others.

Look -
It looks aggressive, you can tell it's taller without it looking too tall. The tires fill the wheel well but there's still plenty of gap. The raptor wheels look great with the chrome, instead going with all black. It seems like running 35s on this truck are no problem as long as you keep the offset high on the + side. I would say that the tires are just outside of the fender wells. I can see the edge of the tire in the mirrors now where the stock tires were tucked. It's much better, and shouldn't throw rocks up the side.

Ride Quality -
I thought the stock suspension on the truck was very soft. The difference with the Icon kit is night and day. The ride is definitely more truck like - much firmer but in no way harsh. No more Cadillac plush in dips in the highway, and through turns/intersections around town and on ramps it corners flat now instead of wallowing and rolling like the stock suspension did. I haven't had the kit off road yet, I'm sure I'll feel more of the road but I also think it'll handle it better. More reviews to come on that, but the on road manners are awesome if you like a firmer ride.

The BFGs are extremely quiet, I would say right now they are not louder than stock. I'm sure they'll get some noise to them as wear, but right now the truck is still really really quiet inside. The ride is very smooth. They feel heavier (which they are, obviously), and my acceleration is different than stock, but there's absolutely no lack of power and I'm already forgetting that it feels different.

Measurements -
I took detailed measurements before and after to get an idea of how far 'up' the truck went. All measurements were taken from the ground.
The BFGs measure 34.4 tall, and the stock wranglers measure 32.1 (all according to their online specs). So the tires gave me 1.15" of height going by the numbers. I feel like they actually gave me more based on the measurements. but that's just speculation.

Rake = 3/4"

Rubbing -
Absolutely no rubbing so far. My shop did not touch the crash bars, and I haven't had any rubbing, including going in and out of driveways with the wheel cranked, forward and backward.

The big MPG question -
So far so good. I've put 100ish miles on the truck, mostly running around town with a couple very short highway stints. The display says 15.7 on it and I haven't yet corrected the speedo/odometer calcs so I'm traveling slightly farther than the truck thinks I am. I'll keep this info updated but so far it doesn't seem like I'm going to take a big MPG hit which I'm happy about. I bought the rough country speedometer calibrator which will be here Monday, so more info on that and MPG coming.

CV Angles:
I haven't taken a pic yet of the cv angles, but when I crawled under to take a look, they looked great. I'll post a pic later.

And now for some before and after pics

F150 dent in tailgate

Hi everyone. I just found this dent on my 2019 f150 XLT. I’m really bummed out about it. Only had the truck for 6 months and have babied the crap out of it. I have no clue where it came from and really want to get it fixed. Any suggestions? Will PDR work on this? I’m also a little concerned at how the paint cracked beside the dent. Any thoughts ?

2014 F150 Vibration over 70 MPH

I need some help, please. I have a 2014 F150 that has a bad vibration in the steering column when I get around 70 MPH. I thought the issue was the tires, so I replaced all 4. I also purchased the 3 year alignment package with NTB. The issue remains. I have gone back 3 times and had them rotate and balance (there was a lot of weight on one of my tires) and the alignment has had to be adjusted each time I take there. But soon as I leave I test drive it and the issue remains. Any suggestions?

Very impressed with this truck and it tows like a champ! Just drove 135 miles pulling my trailer and averaged 15mpg at 67mph.

2007 F150 Front Rims hot to the touch

$

A little background, I recently purchased this truck from a family member 2007 F150 crew cab 5.4 XLT 4x4. Had an intermittent wobble at random speeds while driving it (not whole breaking). After an expressway drive of 20miles or so when I parked steam was coming from the driver side front tire so I figured a stuck caliper. Replaced both front calipers, replaced rotors and pads and the wobble went away. However both front rims still get hot to the touch after driving. I replaced both front brake hoses and flushed the break fluid thinking maybe I had a blockage not allowing fluid back through the lines. While the rims/lug nuts seem not to be as hot they are still warm to the touch (warm enough that you can’t touch them for more than a few seconds). Rear rims have zero heat. I’ve also started to notice that my after driving for 10-15 miles the steering gets tougher, not sure if that’s related to heat build up or something else. Brakes are solid not soft at all so I don’t think it’s the master cylinder. Any other ideas or has anyone had any issues like this?

Sync 3.0 Version (May 31, 2020)?

Does anyone know the current version of Sync 3.0 software? I have 19205, but thought I saw there was an update several months ago. The Ford owner website is worthless. It says my truck has the current version, but will not show which version. The last time an update was released it said the same thing several months after the fact.
